Putting may seem like the easiest aspect of golf. Since, you’re only ever putting at a shorter distance compared to full on driver swing with a tee shot on a course. But, putting can be the most intensive part of playing, especially if you’re playing mini golf with a few obstacles in the way.
Here we’ll give you a few tips on how to master the craft of that awesome shot that you can start using today.
1. It’s about Focus
Visualising where the ball is going to go is essential in predicting your trajectory into the hole. When taking the shot, it requires your full concentration, almost akin to zen mind-set. Silence is a must, so don’t be afraid to put ‘fingers on lip’ to your competitors.
Take a deep breath when you’re taking a shot and exhale after shots been taken. This ensures that your shot is as straight as possible and met wherever you want the ball to go, hopefully straight in the hole.
2. Use your Surroundings
You probably think that the best way into the hole is to avoid all the obstacles in place. But, obstacles can be your friend. They can be used to bounce the ball into that tricky corner. I wouldn’t recommend trying to aim for those moving object, unless you’ve become a mini-golf master.
3. It’s all in the hips (and stance)
How much power you put into the shot depends on how you stand. It’s recommend for longer shots that you keep your feet far apart. Not too far, just as comfortable as you can. Then you have better balance for and can focus on your arms.
For those shorter shots (when you’re on the green) we’d recommend putting (excuse the pun) your feet together. Because you’re only doing a shorter shot the emphasis shouldn’t be on power. It should be on the tap of the ball and direction.
Yet, this only recommendation, it is whatever you feel is best. Which you’ll only know form…
4. Practice, Practice, Practice!
No one has ever become Tiger Woods on their first try. It takes a lot of practice and time to show off those trick shots. Getting to know a certain course is also important, you only familiarise how the ball travels by practising.
The only way you can do this, is by getting those sessions in. It’s best to do this with friends, as you can compare shots. It’s also a bit of a morale booster if someone is worse than you.
5. Always Have Fun
What’s the point of doing anything if it’s no fun? The great thing about mini-golf is that it’s a group activity. Getting the family, friends or other loved ones makes it a great bonding session.
